Dear Kellogg prospective students

Dear Kellogg prospective student visitors,

We love having you visit the school. We love talking to you, giving you advice, learning about some of the interesting things you have done and plan to do in the future. And we love you visit classes. There is one thing that we do not love - if you attend classes, we are disturbed if you are completely distracted and on your smartphone all the time. We are distracted when you start typing up emails on your blackberry. And we don't like it as it shows complete lack of respect for the professor. We are guilty of this ourselves at times, but we try to refrain as much as possible. So please do us a favor; when you visit a class, keep your phone completely switched off and stowed away for the duration of the class.

Thanks
Kellogg Students.

  1. Oh man, that's horrible.

I have to admit that as a prospective student, I have visited a few schools now, and there was one school where I caught myself checking my work e-mail during a lecture. That was the moment that I knew that NYU Stern is definitively NOT a good match for me. I'm a complete academic nerd, so if a lecture can't hold my attention, that's a very very bad sign.

  2. Courtney, enjoyed reading your blog! You might also have sat through the wrong class - I remember I was really bored sitting in on an operations class at Ross, but that had nothing to do with the school, and everything to do with the fact that I had no background in the subject and they were discussing pretty advanced concepts. As a follow up, an even funnier thing happened - a prospective student actually answered her phone in a class - the professor had started talking, and her phone rang. She picked it up, whispered into it for a minute and then shut it. I was shocked!
